On Aug. 27th, 2012, six students of Material Science and Engineering (MSE) of Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT) arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. They are going to participate in University of Pittsburgh for fall-term courses study. It is the first batch of foreign students sent to University of Pittsburgh (PITT) since our school signed a 2+2 cooperation agreement with them. This project is a Shanghai College Students Study Abroad Program which is approved by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission in May. School leaders, relevant departments and Materials Science and Engineering attach great importance to cooperation with PITT, and multi-party coordination arrangements for the implementation of the study abroad grogram. Early June, Professor Chun Xu was appointed to contact with PITT about the studying matters, and reached a preliminary intention. Late June, Professor Minjing Qiu, head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science of PITT, visited our school to exchange views on study abroad courses and sign a cooperation agreement on the short-term study abroad programs with us. During the summer vacation, Dr. Dongyun Zhang, Foreign Affairs Secretary of MSE, was appointed to be in charge of contacting with PITT and arranging one week training for students. Through the efforts of all parties, a series of work from the signing of the cooperation agreement, the selection of student enrolled, the application of visa to training in summer holidays was completed in less than three months. The six undergraduate students will participate in the fall-term courses studying in PITT which lasts 4 months. The leading groups of MSE, Officer of International Affairs, and some teachers attended the farewell meeting for the students. They wished the students to get good grades and win glory for our school.
